I got engaged on Christmas Eve.
Now, you might have thought I would've been prepared for this, given that I basically knew it would happen sometime while Jake and I were in the same place between 12/23 and 12/31. After all, I had my great-grandmother's diamond in hand, and we had ordered a setting and made plans to go look at it and probably purchase it (which we did) on the 23rd. Not only that, but I had my wonderful e-bay special wedding dress fitted in mid-December, and it was back in Niki's closet, patiently waiting.
There it is, sitting on the hanger in the store, complete with a new corset back.
I even bought high-heeled silver shoes and thoroughly researched wedding venues and photographers.
Nonetheless, it's still an adjustment, being engaged. I keep looking at this shiny object on my left ring finger in a vague state of wonder. I am starting to try out new titles on Jake, titles like "future husband," a title that, needless to say, I very much enjoy addressing him with.
I am so in love with this boy.
Wedding planning, on the other hand, is much less fun when it involves spending actual money than it is when it involves just thinking about what you would spend money on, if you had the money to spend and a reason to spend it. I do believe it is a good and valid thing to have a celebration as well as a religious ceremony, but besides the fact that we don't have much money, I simply want to be a good steward of the money we do have. Not only do we not want to go into debt in order to have a wedding, but I also don't want to be extravagant, spending money that could go to more important things like rent, Anya's tuition, feeding the poor...
In any case, for those who don't yet know, Jake and I are getting married on April 24th. The reception will be here, the photographer will be this person, and if anyone wants to view other details, they may do so here, at the information site we set up for our wedding guests (of which there would be more, if only we could afford it -- so if you don't get an invite, please don't feel insulted; I had to cut a lot of people off my list that I really wanted to invite).

I'm hoping i get invited since i am trained in how to dress you properly.
If need be, i will considering holding the dress hostage for an invite.
BTW, i know this isn't a wedding blog, but it is about your life and the next few months of your life will be about getting married. Don't feel bad about posting wedding stuff here.
Don't worry; the fact that you are the only person who knows how to work the dress, if nothing else, secures your place on the guest list. -- That and the fact that once you've battled the forces of evil with someone, you're kind of bonded to them for life.
